WELCOME

Most of the bronzes you will see here are writers who were involved in the Golden Age of Science Fiction, most of whom knew L. Ron Hubbard during 1930’s and early 1940’s when he was writing pulp fiction. The height ranges from 5 3/4” to 6” plus a 1” high marble base.

You can click on each bust for a larger view. Also, if you would like to see just one bust, click on the bust under Blog Archives to the right of the page.

To see each page, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom under the last picture.

The process of creating a bronze is as follows:

From photos I create it in clay. Then a liquid latex is applied over the clay bust in layers, which, creates a negative mold of the clay bust. When the latex dries, it is then removed from the clay. Then molten wax is poured into the mold which gives a positive copy of the bust. The foundry then covers the wax bust in several layers of a ceramic compound, which, when it hardens becomes a ceramic shell. Molten bronze is then poured into the ceramic shell and the wax melts out. This is called the lost wax process. A very good tutorial on the process is in the following http://www.afafoundry.com/HowTo_Educational_Tutorial_Videos.html

An option to the bronzes you see here is white marble resin (shown with the Ernest Hemingway bronze) which is cast from the same mold of each of the pieces here.

Sculpture is one of my passions and creating these busts and adding life to them was a joy. I hope you enjoy seeing them.
